[[barring an official description of the Medicae Ward, we're going to take some liberties here, but if it doesn't fit that can be changed later]]

Located between the mess tent and the supply depot, the Medicae Ward is actually composed of two separate buildings in close proximity. Previously an herbalist's shop and a merchant hall, the compound is now a single unit, with the already damaged walls knocked out between them. Canvas tent has been strung up to cover the gaps between the two stone buildings, as well as the majority of the greenhouse structure in the herbalist's shop. The remaining glass provides light for the operating theatre, as well as a small garden and chymistry workshop formed by what could be salvaged from the original building. The storefront section of the herbalist's shop has been converted into examination rooms for patients, with a door leading to the greenhouse area. On the opposite side, the merchant hall has a second storey that has been crammed full of cots for the wounded, but space is limited and some of the patients have been moved downstairs in curtained off areas as well. The centre of the hall boasts a large fireplace, that while hardly ever full of firewood, tempts many to try and find admittance to the field hospital for comfort. A medicae servitor and several servo skulls linger inside the building, and some claim to have glimpsed a cherubim servant around the operating theatre, lugging a large tome.

As recent events at the Motor Pool involved an unfortunately timed fire, the Medicae Ward found itself flooding with injured folk; burn victims, people who choked down too much smoke, and well, more burn victims.

Corpsman Rook found himself tending to some recovering post-surgery guardsman in an all but empty ward, to a sudden surge of people stumbling in, dragging unconscious and horribly charred comrades, and trailing soot and ash that wafted about the ward like the drizzling aftermath after a vicious shelling.

"What- The... " Jak looked around himself, suddenly overcome with a sinking sensation that they were about to be overwhelmed really fast. He was pretty sure there wasn't enough burn cream available in the supplies to cover all the flesh that was crawling into the Medicae Ward.

"... Well at least most of you are augmetic, so that'll be less of a strain on supply..." He commented to himself- but not unheard from some of the glares he received from injured Mechanicus... At least if they still had eyes beneath those masks...

"Jules! Where are ya?!" He yelled up the staircase to the second floor, "Y'better get some cots ready we got a flood!"

Jak was just as busy, having gotten frustrated at the rate they were stumbling in and thrown one of the smaller burn victims over his shoulder, dragging another unconscious Mechanicus over to pull them onto cots. Unlike Juliet, the smell of cooked flesh was something he was accustomed to, and was not phased by at all.

"Kinda busy, Jules-" He yelled back, grunting as he lowered the one on his shoulder onto the cot. He fished out his combat knife and started sawing the unconscious one's robes open- He'd have to check to see if this one had real lungs to worry about, or pass him to a mechanicus who could better service augmetic parts... They were going to need a lot of soaked, wet cloth to soothe the worst of the burns for those waiting for the medicus' attentions.

"Al-...!"

He looked over and gawked at the servitor that was scrawling runes on the victims and moving down the row, bleeping the same message of ++REMAIN CALM AND AWAIT TREATMENT++ plodding slowly down the line...

"Al what are you doing- bring all the burn cream from the storage! They're all frakkin' burned or suffocating what else do you need to scan?! Get some breather tanks!"

Cursing softly under his breath, he watched as the much smaller medicae struggled with a flailing and snapping patient, and realized she genuinely needed his help. He ran over, throwing himself down over to pin him, "Quit strugglin' or I'm gonna have to snap that off and soder it back on after," He growled while ducking from an angry swing from the drill.

As the flailing slowed to a slump, Jak couldn't help but frown at her praise of the servo-skull.

"Jules, it's programmed with set functionality. It doesn't think." He eased off the relaxed burn-victim, standing up, "You still need me here? I think you can handle it like that..." He motioned to the limp mechanic.

"We should treat the unconscious first, they are likely in more critical condition," He chided her, not unkindly, but gently reminding her that if they had enough energy to fight, they had enough stamina to wait.

Juliet worked as she prepared to begin cleaning and debriding the wound, her brow furrowed as she investigated the full extent of the burn. The man's augmetics had allowed him to make it from the motor pool to the medicae ward, but now they were failing as the potentia coil discharged erratically through his cyber-mantle. "Jak..." she said, her voice suddenly less forceful. "I don't think we can save this one without a specialist. That's why he was performing triage. Operating on the wrong patients may cost lives." She brushed a small hand against the cheek of the man where his respirator unit gave way to flesh. Despite the sedative, his bionics continued to spasm as they received bursts of power "I'm sorry," she whispered.

Jak looked at her, before looking down at the mostly augmetic man.

"Count your blessings he's sedated, if we can get one of the cogheads in here, we might have a shot."

After a pause, he reached out to pat her shoulder gently.

"You've done what you can with this one, the sedative will only prolong his suffering, but hey, he'll live a little longer," He'd really meant that she'd given the mechanicus a chance at living if he could survive until one of his own came to aid him. Perhaps worded really crappily in the moment. He tried though!

"Come, help me get some gauze and cloth soaked with some cold water, it'll soothe the aches for those waiting. Get your diagnoster, we can check them as they come in, it'll be faster with the two of us and let Al do the heavy lifting."

With a quiet nod, the junior chirurgeon turned away and shrugged off her cape, its officio medicae emblem blood red against the pure white cloth. She rolled up her sleeves and grabbed gauze from the cabinets, then began to dip them in the already icy basin and hand them to Jak. In the main hall, Alcibiades stood with an oxygen tank and respirator mask in hand. "Thank you," she said, addressing the servitor. "Let's get that put to use." Juliet then turned to the crowd of smoking bodies, inspecting the glyphs he had scribed. "These are highest priority. Start with them. The ones with that rune can be handled next."

Jak nodded, looking for the marks and followed her direction- it would only waste time to argue that he knew better, or her methods were slow... As it was, the runes did help, and it wasn't a hindrance. He took the soaked gauze, dumping them in a clean bedpan to carry with him as he walked toward the servitor.

He took the oxygen tank from the servitor, giving it a nod before he capitulated, "Al, resume your diagnoses, I'll take care of getting the cream."

Sure, the older medic could be stubborn, but he wasn't stupid when a possible methodology could work to make them work more efficiently together. Even if it wasn't what he would do.

[[Great! I have just the man. Or machine.]]
"By the Omnissiah." Came a low and metallic voice. Having just entered the medicae ward was another Mechanicus priest. Only this one was unburnt. Stepping through his brothers, Engiseer Chirigus looked at the carnage. Brothers and sister, burnt and melted, writhing on their cots as what was left of their flesh seared with pain. He's trained eye however saw what damage was done to their augmented parts. Mechadendrites melted and cracked from the heat, optical senosors cracked, augmented limbs twisted and warped. As he looked around, he noticed two people at work. Walking towards them, he began to pray for his brothers.

"Are you the ones in charge of this facility?" He asked as he reached Jak and Jules. One of his Optical mechadendrites swung over the currently sedated adept. Mecharius was his name Chirigus believed, a kind one to the machine spirits. It pained him to see the man in such as state.

[[PERFECTO]]

To say that Jak was relieved to see the Mechanicus priest was a huge understatement- and he looked like a physical weight was lifted off his shoulders. He stood from where he was cleaning off a scorched looking throat, trying to pack what little flesh the writhing woman had left with cooling cloth to soothe her wounds before he could return with burn cream.

"Yeah, we're the ones in charge for this shift," He stood up straight, snapping a salute, "Corpsman Jak Rook." He motioned over to the sedated Mechanicus, since that had been the one that Juliet doted on briefly, "Take your pick, we could use any help, but that one ain't gonna make it once those sedatives wear off. If he starts jerking around again he might just kick it. Probably nerve damage or somethin' he couldn't control himself." He shrugged, before turning to the next marked with a critical rune.

"I see." Chirigus said, and activated his implanted cognator to access all he could of the wounded here.

"Have faith in the Omnissiah. My brothers and sisters are stronger than this flesh." He said. After a bit of research he believed he found the problem. Another quick prayer to the Omnissiah and he began to work.

"You were not far off with your diagnosis. However, Mecharius had replaced a portion of his mind with a cognator, to help aid him in his work." He said, as 4 utility mechadendrites sprung out from under his robes. One held down the head of the patient, with two others began to drill open a metal plating on his skull.

"My guess is that the heat somehow damaged the cognator, and the spirits inside have become enraged due to this." He explained as he pried away the panel. Ah ha- just as expected. The cognator was sputtering, obviously from the spirits fury. He began to repeat a hymn and started to repair the damage.

++Blessed is your form, perfect is your function. None exceed your design and purpose. For flesh is weak, but you make it strong. Praise to thee, God of machines.++

Juliet pushed her glasses back up onto her nose and took a deep breath. "Stay calm. It's going to work out." When the techpriest stepped across the threshold, her first instinct was to ask the servitor to check him out, but after hearing him speak to Jak, she felt a surge of relief. "Emperor be praised." Juliet wanted to explain to the Enginseer that she had done all she could for his comrade, but in the midst of so many others who needed her aid, she could only watch from a distance as he applied his more skilled ministrations. She flashed a smile to Rook as she dabbed at the burns of another tech-adept. "I suppose I should remember to trust my faith as much as my teachings."

The corpsman paused for a second, staring quietly as he watched the Tech-priest get to work on repairing Mecharius... He couldn't help but be fascinated by the technique that was beyond his ken- He only knew how to knit flesh. The workings of the Omnissiah were beyond him.

To be fair, before Chirigus appeared, he was about to actually panic internally for the first time since his first field mission; he had no idea how to repair the augmetics, and watching so many suffering around him where he could only aid them part-way was a huge crushing blow to his confidence.

Rook glanced over at her, before he wandered over and patted her on the shoulder, "Just focus on helping the wounded. Try to work fast. Death waits for no one, and I would hate to suffer at the hands of a medicus too absorbed in the Throne's forsight than makin' good on the Throne's blessing."

"I'll get the burn cream," He set the bedpan with a few more scraps of gauze in it beside her as he jogged to a storage room to dig out the crates.

While they kept inventory in the front with carefully charted distributions between all the rooms; this was a case where digging into the supply closet would behoove them greatly.

Elise Lumel heads in towards the medicae ward, helping support a badly burned conscript. Her blonde hair is covered in soot and her usual cleanliness has faded in the face of these injuries.

"I have another injured from the Motor pool. He's very hurt, red hot metal fragments."

A respirator unit clutched in one hand, the Junior Chirurgeon brushed her hair aside to see the newcomer. Upon hearing the nature of the injury, she hastily finished what she was doing. "Critical status. That metal is cooking his tissue." She urged Elise to help move the patient carefully to the operating table.
