December shook her head, "if you think they are sleeping well. You are mistaken. I don't think any of us know how to even have a "better" sleep."

Now her eyes grew curious, though. "Where else did you hear such a lullaby, though?"

"A Lullaby, not the same one. That was during Training back on Krieg. There was a..." She scratched behind the head, trying to explain it without actually saying what it was "Planned Interferance to our sleep, we had to be in deep sleep for it to be effective and painless, but in my case it was scary even in that state. I was given a music box to ignore the painful part of the interferance" Erika chuckled weakly and added "I still remember the notes"

She wasn't sure if anything could ever truly "shock" her any more. Or scare her, exactly. But this---she found something of a dreadful fascination rising within as the other woman spoke. The 19th didn't speak of Krieg, often. She knew snippets and snags of information. She knew enough.

But this was a slightly different upbringing. And December found herself gazing thoughtfully to the woman opposite her. "What sort of interference would they use?" she asked softly. Though the room still had other Kriegers in it, it seemed as though the two of them were alone. Talking across a table in an empty room. The only other sounds the soft breathing of the sleeping soldiers and the steady "chk-chk-chk" of the knives working names into stone.
"In life, war. In death, peace. In life, shame. In death, atonement."

This question brought out memories of home, some good, mostly bad, but this was still home. It could not be desribed how much did the Kriegerin wanted to share this knowladge, to tell and hear from others about their homes -but sadly, she couldn't: the only answer she could provide, even if wanted to say something else will always end in 'Information Classifed'. It was the Prime Directive to answer this type of question in this way, the manner of how to follow it is up to the individual trooper. And until an answer will be made, a painful headache will pound on the nerves to follow the order.

With visible regret, helplessness and even slight pain, the woman said slowly:
"I'm sorry but... this specific knowladge cannot leave the 945th Regiment. I... cannot explain further on the Regiment's Creation."
There, done, Prime Directive Furfilled she thought to herself, no vital information exposed Please Stop it And Like that, the pain receded, only to return when the next directive will be issued.

There was a certain irony in the secrets they all kept. Erika seemed to want to share hers. But then, December wouldn't know anything about that. Her own secrets weren't ones she'd wish on her worst enemy.

"We all have our horrors to remember, Erika." December responded quietly. "and you're quite nice, for someone from Krieg. I hope you survive this war."

There was a scrape at the door as it opened inwards, the Watchmaster of the 19th entering with two other Kriegers. The Medicae found herself smiling as she saw his familiar off-white coat and armor. "Watchmaster," she called, "We've a guest from the 945th. Calls herself defective, but only because she has the sense to communicate."

The Watchmaster set down his pack without speaking, expression hidden behind his mask as he surveyed Erika.

Finally he spoke, though not exactly to their guest. "Communication is one of our greatest weapons." He stated simply to the room at large before walking over to one of the bunks and sitting down.
"In life, war. In death, peace. In life, shame. In death, atonement."

"I think you'll find our Watchmaster doesn't hate---anyone." December lied with a careful smile. "But I think it also means he might not dislike you as much as others."

On the bunk the Watchmaster was silently removing his extra gear, though leaving his greatcoat, mask, gloves and boots on. Lasgun resting against the bunk within each reach, he lay back on the bunk and clasped his hands over his torso, resting against the barely there pillow and neither confirming or denying December's words.

The Watchmaster crouches and aims at the door. He then turns to the group of Engineers behind him.

"Holen Sie sich etwas, um dies klar zu machen."

He points to the black abyss behind the door frame.

"Auf dem doppelten."

Leaning back at the chair, the Kriegerin closed her eyes and slowly exhaled in a relaxing manner. "It's a nice feeling... You know, being less disliked than others; almost as being tolerable. The 3rd Company and I will less dislike yours as well, 'Like an extended family that you can stand their presance'. Whatever it means; Read it in the last 'St. Brannicus' Issue"
After a short pause, Erika back at the tanned woman, she smiled warmly and started a laugh, it could have grown from its weak start and evolve into a truly joyous expression were it not caught short by the static of the Vox

++Sniper Specialist Unit #316, report to the Barracks for next assigment, over++

Sighing at the fast return to reality the Kriegerin put on the micro bead and answered as she began packing back the cleaning supplies
++Aknowladged, en route. Out++

"It was a productive convesation, try not to die and... see you around?"

December watched the other woman pack her gear and head out, giving a simple wave of her hand.

Once the outsider was gone, she sighed softly. "If she's what they consider defective. What will they think of us?" She asked quietly of the room.

In response. There was only the steady "shk shk shk" of knives working names into ferrocrete.

"dear oh dear oh dear" Jane muttered as she came across what was left of Stagsimus "what have you done to yourself?" gingerly she picked up the remains, wrapping the stygies robes around them to protect them from outside elements, altogether she ended up cradling an object the size of a basketball as she left the cellar, stopping at the entrance to speak to the kriegsmen present

"seal off and quarantine this sector, presence of combat servitors turrets and a sizeable amount of ordnance, possible tech heresy but difficult to verify without a more in depth analysis" she then opened a secure vox channel to #74 and #101

++cellar successfully breached and unit pratextus has been retrieved, condition of unit is Unknown, evidence present suggests that pratextus converted cellar into a munitions and metals forge using pieces of himself as components, this and presence of heavily armed servitor and gun turret necessitates immediate quarantine of cellar and an in depth examination by multiple adepts in order to determine whether tech heresy is present, will require dispatch sent to most senior mechanicus elements present on naris [re: lochagos pelwyn] request send all qualified adepts along with a portable isolation chamber for unit pratextus, fate of pratextus to be determined after consultation with senior mechanicus and 554th command. report will be filed to all relevant parties at your earliest convenience++

Among the things that once composed Stagsimus were his head with the sensory implants and Cogitator Brain intact, the main life-sustaining organs/machines of his torso and some mechadendrites in addition to the extensive communication array that was offline due to lack of power. Anything of uncomplicated nature that was simply a metal filler was deemed expendable.
But the most peculiar thing about the Tech Priest was what being clutched in his hands: A Basketball-sized smooth Adamntium Cube bearing the Sigil of the Mechanicus and Stygies VIII. The Mechanical and Biological Rigor Mortis kept it held tightly and away from any harm or prying eyes, and the position in which it was being held in indicated that it's importance was absolute considering the amount of remaining electricity still being directed to the mechanical hands that held it secured second only to the Cogitator Brain and the signal that it emanated.
The Metasurgeon Left the Laboratory with the 2 Objects: The Box and Stagsimus which cannot be referred as operational at this point.

As she stepped over the remains of the now cooled down heavy door slag the Admin-Spirit of the Cellar began quickly piping like a det-charge being at its' last seconds of the countdown. Before Jane could react: A loud 'thum' echoed through the Lair, shaking the walls themselves with the force of an unknown impact. Peering back down into the void, Cheslock saw the heavy blast door with a small bulge outward.

And the Machines finally stopped their song.

----------------------------------------

Back at his own Lair, the Hauptmann of the 9453rd Company slumped back at his chair with what could only be referred to as relief. A Massive Crisis had been averted: the Data Predator was retrieved without violence or too extreme measures. The place will be hopefully under Mechanicus Quarantine that will investigate it as their own internal matter and it is possible that his Company may even claim the Munitions for their own.

++Acknowledged, Unit #101 trusts the issue will be resolved in a sufficient time and knowledge on the event to be recovered.++

And now for the Smaller Crisis; extinguishing the Iho Pipe and turning on the ventilation, he returned to a typing position and resumed the report he'll have to deliver after crossing it with the Metasurgeon's Report.
The massive cloud of smoke that filled the office was being slowly sucked out and only one thought moved through the Hauptmann's mind:
God-Emperor on Terra, may it be sufficient

Was the sky always gloomy? Or was it just gloomy over the Krieg compound? Either way, the gloom and doom of the grey clouds brought Ash a macabre sort of comfort. Grey skies were familiar. The Krieg Watchmaster knew how to deal with familiar. The hour was relatively early, and his rotation was over. Now all that was left to do was make his way through the winding trenchworks and confined halls and tunnels back to his unit's barracks.

He made sure the next shift was well-placed and in cover, and then started the lengthy walk back to barracks, the gloomy skies above threatening rain with a soft roll of thunder.

An unusual (for Krieg standards at least) sight could be found in the underground tunnels this morning as Master of Ordnance Douglas De Grotto made his way through the winding passageways. He step to one side of an elongated hallway to allow a section of soldiers to pass, only to find that they had step aside to let him pass themselves. With no word or change in his stone face facial expression he continued on with Wesley ever following in his wake. Though the old artillery officer inversely smiled to himself. Of all the regiments on Valmaria, the Krieg death corps had his favour. They worked like a well built chrono: each part working with precision to achieve the same goal. They knew the value of artillery too. The reason he was in there position this morning was to oversee and report on the Krieger's morning artillery barrage and, as expected, it had gone off like chrono-work. On time and well on target, that is what De Grotto respected.

But the officer had seen what he had come here to see, now he embarked on a different agenda all together. He didn't exactly know where he was going, mainly because he was unfamiliar with the inner depths of the death corps defences. But he knew what he was after and was sure that if he kept on searching, he would find what he was looking for.

The Krieg Watchmaster made his way down into the lower tunnels. Trading gloomy sky for the dull flicker of man-made illumination. Up ahead a figure walked alone trailed by a servo skull. Ash immediately side stepped, pressing his back up against the wall with a dull scrape and saluting sharply as the master of ordnance approached.

As he continued to venture deeper into the maze of tunnels, De Grotto found a Watchmaster making way for him. This time he was offered a salute, one that could have cut straight through the stale air of the underground complex. To De Grotto, having time to salute meant that the Krieger had enough time to answer a question or two. Returning the salute in turn, the officer pivoted as he crossed the soldier's frontage and halted so that he stood face to face with him. Wesley, not expecting the sudden stop, had to continue on for a metre before performing a tight figure eight in the cramp corridor to double back behind it's master. Dr Grotto address the Watchmaster in a direct manner which would not come across as wasting his time: "Watchmaster, could you please direct me to a Kriegen artillery officer?"

The watchmaster kept his stance rigid, dropping the salute after the officer returned the gesture. "Sir, this regiment no longer has dedicated artillery officers. Lieutenant of D Company or Captain Schulze perform the duty when it is required. If they are incapacitated, next ranking personnel perform the duty." he responded somberly.

Now more artillery officers. Throne condemned, he had hoped for an officer who would understand the particulars of his agenda. Then again, the Krieg forces are a siege regiment after all. Surely any Krieg officer would be more than capable.

"I have a mission which needs fulfilling Watchmaster." Dr Grotto continued. "Please take me to the more appropriate choice for discussing the details with, if you are not already fulfilling a task."
