Ash had to hold off on his instinctual reply. The truth was nothing would earn redemption for his world. And unfortunately his subordinate had finally realized that simple fact.

He found his jaw shifting as he almost spoke up, spoke the words that none of them were allowed to give voice to. And there was a noticeable pause as his mind reslotted thoughts and words into new order of execution.

"I cannot speak for the future. Commissar." He responded with little in the way of expression. "My life is as always, forfeit. But if this has any chance of reflecting poorly on you due to our actions, then this Watchmaster of Grenadiers can only suggest punishments for himself and his subordinate. If this Watchmaster may suggest, our Previous Commissar was very fond of executions."
"In life, war. In death, peace. In life, shame. In death, atonement."

Makarov considered the Watchmasters response as she sipped at her tea. With a sigh she set the mug down, adjusting her sleeves. "You said that you thought with enough time he might stop these actions, correct? All that has to be done is get him to understand that he has to do that now. Does he care about the combat effectiveness of his unit? About actions reflecting poorly on command? About anything in particular?"

She glanced at the other desk in the room, wishing that she could shove this off on Hall. She'd never been very good with disciplinary actions that involved Kriegers. It was a strange thing when they needed them and she never really felt prepared for it. A Commissar with more experience and understanding would have probably been the way to go.

"I'm not about to execute him for this. We're short on manpower, and that'll just teach any other Krieg personnel that if they want a bolt they can get it without issue."

Did 9866-A care about the unit? He had, once upon a time. Ever since the shipboard incident and the Inquisitor afterwards, however. Now Ash wasn't so sure. But to give voice to the doubt that whispered at the edge of his thoughts was to give in, and he wasn't planning on ever doing that again.

"He cares about our unit," he stated with unerring calm. "But . . . " He trailed off momentarily. But what? What was there to say? 9866-A had lost the will to live? That assumed he ever had it in the first place, and that wasn't a sure thing. But what? How could he explain?

December would possibly be better at describing what 9866-A was going through. What they had all endured. But they weren't allowed to speak of it. And his unit excelled at keeping quiet. What to say? What could he say?

"This Watchmaster of Grenadiers begs your forgiveness, Commissar. The Grenadier in question will be reprimanded sharply for intruding on your precious time. I will impress upon him that if he seeks death, he will only find it on the field in glorious service to the Emperor." The words felt hollow in his throat as he spoke them. But what else could his response be?

He stood and saluted sharply, his gear rustling as his body sprang to picture perfect attention. "With your permission, Commissar, I will bother you no longer."
"In life, war. In death, peace. In life, shame. In death, atonement."

As the Watchmaster trailed off, an air of suspicion set about Makarov. She didn't show it overtly other than a narrowing of her eyes and the slight tensing of her jaw. All the Krieg units here were... odd. From their unusual curiosity to their romantic inclinations to their apparent hesitations. Besides, if this 9866 had truly wanted to simply die... well, there were plenty of shots in a lasgun, and he couldn't be so bad at aiming that all of them had missed his head.

"No need, watchmaster. You can tell 9866 his punishment is this: he is to go through every after action report filed on planet and find any notation of a Krieger performing admirably. He will make a list of those, and then find a platform in the courtyard where everyone can see and hear him. Starting at dawn he'll read every single one of those notations, and unless it's about him, he'll also say he hasn't done that, using his name or full designation. So 'Krieger A killed 3 of the Emperors foes. I, 9866, have not killed 3 of the Emperors foes'. And he's to do all of this without his mask. And if he ends before dusk he'll start over the next day, until he's found enough."

She stood, offering a salute in return to the watchmasters.

"Anything else?"

A different sort of soldier might have been confused by such an order. But Ash was used to puzzling orders. Just as he was used to asking for clarification.

"Until he has found enough? Commissar, enough of what?" He queried with a select, careful monotone.
"In life, war. In death, peace. In life, shame. In death, atonement."

"Enough notations of a Krieger preforming admirably. He's to list them starting at dawn and end at dusk. No duplicates and no repeating the list." She paused to write it down, handing it back to Ash.

"Check in with Commissar Whittman to see if there's anything that he would like to add or remove."

"Of course, Commissar." The Watchmaster finally broke his salute and slipped his helmet back on with precise movements. Turning to head back out into the hallway a moment later.

There, if unimpeded, he would collect his subordinate and set about the punishment given.

Makarov nodded. "Good day, Watchmaster." With that she let him go, getting back to her work

((Unless there's anything else that you'd like to do that's scene. : D Thank you! I had a ton of fun!))

[[Time skip!]]
It is late morning in the empty office when a beanie covered head pops up from the bottom of one of the Windows and peers inside. After a moment of observation, Joseph stand up and gentle tries the window. As he had hoped, the widow was open (or maybe broken? But that's not important). As he eases the widow open, the Bacaran proceed with caution in case the resident commissar was still about. This was the first office to check and Emperor will would be the last. After a fear inducing minute, Joseph felt the the office was indeed empty for the moment and made his way back to the open Window.

"All clear in here, come on in." He whispered outside. "Lets find this next clue quickly and get out before anyone notices."

First to go through the window was the bag, landing in the middle of the floor before the owner started to crawl through. The much smaller Chem-Dog found it easier to go through than her counterpart and landed with a soft thud, hands out to her sides as if she was ready to sprint. With nothing coming to meet them anytime soon, Hat went to the stacks of boxes. Not finding any logical order to start, she stood on her tiptoes and grabbed the first box on the top. Though she managed to get it off, the box beneath it fell and spilled its contents on the ground. Thankfully, it was only paper. Hazel eyes lit with panic as she set the box she had down and scrambled to put the papers back in the box, not caring for order but focused on speed.

Savin walks in through the unlocked door, glancing uneasily at the name tag. "Hey y'all, are you sure this be the right office? I don't want to make no trouble for Miss Makar- er, the commissar."
((Roll -2 for luck. Ouch))
She immediately follows up that sentiment by touching a stack of boxes that tips over, spilling tea bags all over the floor. "Merde!"

Wilfred fallowing the ratling Seemingly just as nervious. As he shut the door behind him keeping the nob twisted as to not make to much noise. Seeing the ratling touch the boxes and the tea bags that spill over he quickly moves to help pick them up. debating pocketing a few of the tea bags a as well as looking at papers that fell with the boxes. hearing a slight squeek in the floor boards. "we might have gotten something...." he said as he put the bags into the boxes.

(rolled a one for luck.)

Joseph immediately went to help Hat in repackaging the fallen box, hoping that the resident commissar wouldn't notice if was out of place or not. As Savin entered through the door, he looked up and mental sighed. He hadn't entered through the widow just because he found it fun, the least chance of being spotted the better. Then again she was a rattling, they had a way of going about unnoticed. Then Wilfred entered whilst Savin toppled another box, causing him to both reconsider the small women's stealth ability and the possibility that someone would notice their presence.

"Alright, nobody panic. Will sort this out quickly, then we can do a quick sweep and get out before we're noticed." The Bacaran whispered as he helped gathered the last of the paper. The room had a lot of distracting things to look at; medals, pictures, tea... maybe she had Tanith international blend? He would have to grab some if there was any. Before his mind could wander and more, Wilfred drew Joseph's attention to the floor board. "Down there?" he ask, "Well if it's there then we better be quick about it, I don't favour our chances if we're found pulling up floor boards I'm a Commissar's office."

Hat gave Joseph a thankful nod and smile when he helped her put all the stuff in the box. After the others joined them and they finished cleaning up, she was about to open the box she pulled down when it was suggested that whatever they were looking for was under the floorboards. It made sense for there was no way a Commissar would find it by accident. Hat set her bag down and opened it, digging with hope to find something to help her pull them up but the best thing she had was her flamer and various types of grenades. She was a little surprised and disappointed.

"I got nothing for pulling those up," she reported quietly to the group.

((roll -1 for luck. Gorramit))
Savin piles the tea back in its box and puts it back on the stack, then stands at the center of the room with her hands at her sides, trying not to make any more trouble. She scans the room, looking for anything out of place that might hold the map to the treasure. She gets distracted by Makarov's certificates and wanders over to read them.

There were, unsurprisingly, a few metal scraps in a box labeled 'Tech Priests??'. If one was really dedicated to it they could probably use those to jimmy up the floor boards. But it wouldn't be clean and it wouldn't be quiet. If they were willing to damage the floor like that they could probably just use the bits to bash through the floor too.

Either way they would have to pick fast as they could hear the heavy clomping of the jack booted fun police. It could have been anyone, but Makarov was exceptionally unsubtle in her stomping, and it seemed to be heading for the office. Stomp stomp stomp, better think fast everyone.

((with sneaky being her worst skill at a great old +0 I think that you guys would probably hear her before she showed up.))

Joseph head snapped up towards the door and the sound of approaching footsteps. This was bad, they had to get out. But they couldn't just leave now, not without giving it a far go. Acting immediately on his first impulse, Joseph Omen detached his shovel from his belt and brought it down upon the suspected floor board.

[[Roll 0+2 forceful=2]]

The nine seventy split the floor board in twain, but were kept in place by its nails. It would be simple enough ply away, but it would take time. Time which they no longer had. Not to mention that the shattering of the wood would no doubt have been heard by who ever was approaching. For a second Joseph stared with bewilderment at the stupidity of his rash decision, the next second he spent looking up at the group with a mixture of apologetic and regret. He couldn't drag them all down with him, therefore he had one chose. Anyway, he was a Bacaran, it was only a matter of time before they found something else to condemn him for. With what little time they had he past on the quickest message he could muster, making sure that even if they couldn't hear his hushed voice, they would hopefully understand what he said by the moment of his mouth...

"Hide or run!"

The fear of the emperor struck Wilfred as the floor boards where torn out as the commissars boots clicked and clacked down the hallways. Panicking. His own mind racing for somewhere for him to hide. He looked at the trooper then at the floor board Then to the door. He definitely was not fast enough to run or sneaky enough to hide. So. Emperor's flame protecting him. He stood up. Placing his hands behind his back. And stood at attention. Facing the door. Waiting for the inevitable. But Vulkan crak him if he was not going to grox shit his way out of this one. Or the more likely case. quite literally die trying.

((roll 1 + 1 forceful for a 2 to yank the remaining pieces of floorboard))
Savin dives forward and pulls the floorboards wide enough for Joseph to get his hand through. "Grabbit quick quick, hoss!"
She then spins towards the door and fumbles in her vest, managing to get something out the moment before Makarov comes around the corner and sees them.
((roll -1 + 2 quick for a 1 to provide a distraction! Don't worry, partners-in-crime, i have a plan!))

Hat heard the approaching footsteps and panic began to set in. Then Joseph slammed the shovel into the floorboard and split it. Surprise hit her. Why the hell was he going to break her floorboard right then? Now Commissar will know something was definitely up. Joseph told them to either hide or run. It seemed that a majority of everyone decided to make up some sort of distraction or ruse to try and fool the Commissar. She looked into her bag and, while there were plenty of good things in it, found nothing she deemed good for this situation. Not quite sure what else to do, Hat whispered to her comrades, “I’m no good here,” and leaped through the window. After she landed she kept low to avoid being seen.
