The mysterious woman had noticed Tabitha's scrutinizing of her and returned it with a smile. It still vexed the young cadian that she couldn't put a finger on where she had seen the woman before, but she did not seem to be much in the way of a threat. There was no way she carried any weapon that could cause serious damage. Maybe a knife or a hold-out pistol but nothing more than that. There wasn't any reason to report her in to the rest of security. She felt like she needed a bit more justification than "she looks familiar somehow".

Instead, something else called her attention. Namely the commandant trying to duck out of sight. Not very succesfully either. Looking down the street she saw a refugee stopping dead in her tracks staring at the commandant with a mortified expression and then trying to blend in with the crowd. She thought it was rather strange behaviour to say the least, certainly the most conspicous tonight... and that was despite Lt Halvus having arrived a moment ago.

"Commandant? Who is she? Do you want us to stop her?"

"N-no, miss, she's welcome here." Lothar was startled from his fluster by Tabitha. His face returned to human complexion, and then settled for an uncharacteristic blush despite the cold of the evening.
"She used to be part of the PDF, before the war. She didn't leave for the same reason anyone else did." McKinnon wasn't sure where to look, or if he could meet Tabitha's eye, but he realised rumours would eventually catch up with him, and only leave a worse impression.

"You'd likely think me an incompetent if I explained..." Lothar finally looked at the young Cadian, compared to how composed and indifferent the noble had looked at the start of the evening, the commandant now simply appeared haunted, and almost human.
"But... You have to understand that Naris had a good portion of nobility in the military." he spoke quietly, "Many young career officers. Not all of them honest." he shook his head, "Not all of them even nobility, truly. But almost all egotistical and trying to build something from that prestige."

The commandant followed Aesteban and Tracy with his head for a short but notable moment, "Not all of us yearn for that time, Miss Maru. Not all of us would be in a hurry to see that particular facet of humanity return to Naris."
Returning his gaze to Lana, Lothar shook his head faintly, "The wrong people always ended up getting hurt by their games."

*

Steeling himself, Lothar stepped from his post, and towards Lana, the crowds parting with natural good will, most people busy with their own revelries, not having yet picked up on the two awkward young Narisians.
"It's been a while, Lana." McKinnon stopped short, for a moment a little visibly puzzled at Lana being alone... But he then smiled calmly and held out his hand for her to take if she wished, "Come, let's sort you dinner and hopefully there's good drink left if the Vostroyans haven't sunk it all."

'Give her some space?' Faeburn looked like he was about to lash out a rebuke at the Kriegerin for how clinical she was being about the situation, but he held back, his tense gaze relaxing somewhat as his eyes cast down at the snow. He then winced in concentration as though weighing his options, the scar across his face making a gnarled grimace. 'You can trust a guardsman, right? It's the officers you have to worry about', Faeburn pondered, and with a sharp exhale he seemed to fully relent.

"Not a word of this, to anyone..." Faeburn said with stern emphasis on the last word, placing a hand on Erika's shoulder while the other brushed some of the frost off her face.

"We should at least get her out here." He the insisted, his eyes finally returning to the signals trooper.

Kroenen let go of De Grotto's hand with another bow, looking pleased with herself for paying the old Ordnance Master his dues, which apparently was a rare thing. Surprised by the Ordnance Master's odd reaction to the new arrival, Kroenen's interest was piqued by the red robed figure that appeared behind the three of them. She was clearly Mechanicus, but Kroenen couldn't quite put her finger on what her position of office was, and though Kroenen would've been standoffish; as a commissar wont to do when around techpriests and psykers, as a matter of faith and safety respectively, Kroenen settled to meet the tech adept out of Candlemass spirit and her own curiosity. Due to her much smaller frame, Kroenen quite literally 'appeared from hiding' as she maneuvered out and around the much larger De Grotto.

"Miss Cheslock?" Kroenen said inquisitively, addressing the tech adept with the name the Hauptmann used for lack of an official rank and title. "Junior Commissar Kroenen." she introduced herself with her hand outstretched, but her eyes trailed off towards Cheslock's decoratively tinsel-wrapped mechandrites. Kroenen seemed to stifle a giggle.

"au contraire DiMettiroo~" halvus replied with a impish grin "what you require is for someone to remove that stick from your derriere and unwind a little, its Candlemas afterall, though i must say you have the puuuuurfect companion for that" she gave a playful bite towards the other lieutenants hand before leaning over to look at tracy, taking note of the green hair and tattooed skin before she leaned forward to speak in tracy's ear

"you clean up nicely" she whispered to the convict "don't worry, your secret is safe with me." with that done she pulled back as she was beckoned by her subordinate "Leftenant we really need to go" he said curtly

"don't mind me, just having a bit of fun before taking over from Sgt Beckett's unit as perimeter guard detail" she gave her camo cloak a brief flourish before she took hold of the lascarbine that her subordinate was still holding "you know Sgt Beckett don't you? is a bit like DiMettriooo~ here, bionic eye looks imposing but is really rather benign just shy around new faces is all, anyhoo like i said i have to pop off. enjoy your evening miss, and don't be a stranger Leftenant~" with another smile she slinked away into the gloom, he escort following close behind

--

"oh bless your heart, Master of Ordnance, i'd love to partake in a glass" Jane replied as she accepted the offered cup, tactfully employing his title rather than his first name given their current company "i only have time for one, i'll be relieving sister valentine from her duties at the small medical station they have setup here soon, but once i'm done there i'll be back for another" cheslock paused as the Commissar came into view and introduced herself

"nice to meet you Commissar" Cheslock said as she offered her free hand and engaged in the customary handshake "Magos Biologis Jane Cheslock, though Jane or metasurgeon will suffice no need to stand on formality, you certainly have good taste in company, both the Hauptmann and the Ordnance Master are Gentlemen and Scholars"

--

with no one paying much attention to him Levi took his chance to move away from the yarrick tent, carefully working his way through the snow across the courtyard until he finally reached where Faeburn and the two kriegers resided
"what's going on over h.." he began quietly, before stopping as he recognised erika "oh geez" of all the kriegers on base, of course it had to be this one. he mentally chided before turning his attention back to the group. "um sir, there's a foxhole with a small shelter over it not far from here if you're looking for somewhere for her to go."

Wilfreds face was crimson as the scarf she wrapped around his neck pulling him into the embrace he would wrap his arms around her pulling her close to him. "your welcome..." was the only words he could get out of his own mouth as he tried to understand everything that was currently happening. There where things that needed to be asked. Both to her and himself. But for now. A warm smile and a hug would have to do. It would be a good start.
Holding her for a few moments in silence he would pull himself away both of his hands gently on her arms as he got look at her. " just so you know. Accepting this gift means that we are now officially married and you have said yes." he said as his face was dead serious. Soon enough he was scrunching his face up snickering "Im sorry. I couldn't help it." Smiling as he cocked his head to the side. A wide smile on his face.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Dugs eyes would brighten up at the offer to feel the scarf "Yes ma'am. Thank you..." he said as he brought his massive hands to the small fabric around her. With a trained hand he felt it with out pulling the woman forward. "De Stich wor'k is morvoulus ma'am. " he said as he eyed the patterns in the fabrics "...whot fabric is dis if I may ask mum" in his giddiness his upper tunnel accent flared up a little. Blinking for a moment as a thought struck his mind. He released his grasp on the scarf carefuly. He would pat around his own webbing before taking out his own small artificial of cloth he kept on himself. and offered it to the woman the simple crimson cloth. "would you loke a feel miss Glynda'h?"

She wasn't sure the commandant's explanation helped all that much. The woman wasn't an enemy, she caught on to that much. Seemed she was a former member of the PDF if she understood it correctly, and he blamed himself for the reason she wasn't anymore. Based on how he put it... it sounded like he had hurt her, badly. Or maybe failed to protect

She looked to sargeant LaChance as he added his sentiment to the commandant. Was that it? Noble schemes? She glanced at the commandant as he stepped out to greet the woman. Looking the the nco manning the gate with her as she spoke to him.

"I never got that. All that scheming and superiority. I've only ever known the duty to Him on Terra. There was nothing besides that. Maybe that's more telling where I'm from than the colour of my eyes though"

as corporal slone saw it the situation just went from bad to worse, and to compound matters he still had no real idea what was going on, at least until his memory caught onto the word 'failure' that had been uttered by the krieger scout and from there he was sorta able to deduce what was happening. It wasn't exactly the first time he had seen a guardsman snap and have a complete meltdown, people could only go through so much afterall, so much so that when the other krieger said something about letting the krieg take care of their own he couldn't help but interject

"no offence, corporal. but the krieg way of doing things i'm guessing is why she is in this state to begin with" he then looked to faeburn "just leave it to me Sir, i have a rough idea of whats happening and i can take care of it"

@ Luca and Saint Yarrick’s Place

Casey looked disappointed as she reluctantly went to stand in line to see Saint Yarrick. Thankfully she was next.

Haley was relieved not only that Casey wasn’t bothering them anymore but also that he didn’t press. However, his talk about trying to make this place home touched her. She couldn’t help but feel a little pity for him.

“Well, I’m not sure how to… help there… but have you ever gone out into town besides for a mission?” she asked, “Or have you ever had time off?”

@ Mechanicus Tent

Glynda listened to what the Tech Priest said and watched as he started scanning and fiddling with the antique. He would discover that it was fairly old.

“Thank you, deary. So kind of you,” she smiled warmly as he took her sewing machine.

When he asked how it exactly broke she put her hands on her hips as she thought about it. “Well, I was sewing together a dress, a nice red dress you see. Had some lace around the hem and it was turning out fairly well. It’s a shame people don’t ask me to do things more like it,” she sighed, “Anyway, I was sewing on the the hem when something just… I heard a… clink I think? A clang? Snap? One of those sounds. Then the needle stopped moving as it made a strange clattering sound. Everytime I turn it on it makes that sound.”

Glynda gave a huff before she looked back at Dug. With a smile, she said, “Thank you for your help, dear. That was awfully kind of you. Here, let me repay you.”

She unwrapped her scarf and held it up for Dug to take.

"I get a little time off... I don't head out much because usually when I go out a mission happens and miss it then I feel bad for not being there to help." Luca took a moment and smiled at her.

"But... I have you my first friend among the locals." He added pausing a second. "And maybe you could take me to town sometime and show me around? I would love to learn more about my new home and the people I fight for." He added, deciding to be hopeful that they would all survive this and be able to live here normally.

"But tonight is about giving back to you all... I should probably figure out what I'm doing to serve later. I think it's singing if you want to come to listen, I'm not sure if I'm not very good but I do my best." He sighed pulling off his beret.

"Well... we have the enemy on our doorstep too. So we're on constant readiness for an attack. My mother used to tell me that being cadian means that you sacrifice yourself to keep the rest of mankind safe. Being ready for the day the enemy comes for us. So I'm not sure about lucky... besides, it's not like we haven't gotten any rotten eggs of our own. They're just not noblemen"

She gave the sargeant a smile and a shrug.

"So apart from the nobility, what's Vosges like? Anything like this world?"

Lother relaxed slightly as Lana accepted his hand, and he crouched to greet the young daughter, and peer into the eyes that peeped out in the bundle of thick clothing, "Allo Mira. Wow, you've got... Taller." the commandant hazarded a goodnatured guess, as he couldn't really tell what shape the child was under the layers, "We've got hot dinners, and we've got Candlemass cakes and custard." he lowered his voice and whispered conspiratorially, "Your mummy says she doesn't want any, but I happen to know it's very nice. And the cooks will be very sad if you don't both eat."
It was partly true, the kitchen has somewhat overcompensated, uncertain of how many people would turn up.

With a smile, Lothar straightened up, and gently but firmly took Lana's arm, steering her towards the serving area. He met any curious glances with the calm confidence and smile that matched the mood of the evening. To any onlookers, it could almost be a normal, holiday family moment, if not for the rumours native Narisians were aware of.

In some aspects, Lana had chosen spectacularly poorly with her attempt to name a young noble as the father of her child. McKinnon had always been unassuming and distinctly disinterested in fraternisation, it was barely believable that he had spoken to a young woman, never sired a child with one.
However, Lana had also chosen the only young noble likely to care for her situation and step up anyway. Lothar had weathered the accusation with a calm grace and the promise to assist the family. His reasoning being, that a child should not suffer from the games and machinations of adults.
War hitting the capital had made that... Complicated.

"You should stop by more often, Lana." he spoke quietly, "I know things have been strange, but hopefully this is a turning point. Maybe things can even start to heal." he looked up towards the makeshift belltower, thoughtful.
