[Mod Note] Please Don't Police Other People's PCs

Hey Guys,

Thank you so much for your patience and being (mostly) super cool and not needing much mod activity, and big ups to Richard for being super super cool and picking up the slack.

While I'm not back fully, I've been around here and there, keeping a quiet eye on things and there's been some posts that while not outright nasty, have been a bit on the abrupt side when greeting new players/characters.

So I'd like to make a very clear request of you all:

Please Do Not Police Other People's Character Concepts/ Sheets

The EO forums are a pretty loose and friendly place, or that was the intention. And we'd like to keep them that way. So while it's great to see welcome posts that are friendly and even have some constructive criticism in them, straight up telling someone that they are having wrongbadfun is not cool.

Examples:

We Like: "Hey, Newplayer. Great concept, but given this is mostly an Imperial-Guard themed RP, your Ork character might find it a little tricky to find threads to pop into. If you want to start some and get some xeno RP going, that'd be great, but otherwise you might find more opportunities if you start a new Guardsman/ Imperial character as well."

Not So Hot: "Hey, Newplayer. That character concept isn't really going to fit in around here. Why didn't you do x, y or z? If I were you, I'd do [banana]."

It's important to remember that everyone has fun in their own way. Lots of people churn out PCs like game pieces on a board, lots of folks feel very close to their characters and craft them lovingly, and especially if it's their first sheet on the board you don't know how they've approached their character. It can be really very disheartening to spend a good amount of time creating something, only to have someone pop up and tell you that you're wrong for doing so. If you really want to say something, you really think someone's made a genuine misstep in reading the tone of the board or the types of characters that will fit in, try to make your feedback constructive.

If someone's really, super duper breaking theme and you think they're only here to troll or mess things up, feel free to buzz one of the mods and we'll have a look and a quiet word behind the scenes if necessary.
