In a once spacious farmhouse that now lay abandoned Carolyne Hood had set up shop for a little event, she'd gotten word through to the locals, PDF, guardsmen, and officers alike that she had gathered things for a proper hunt. The building itself was rather intact and to the north a great empty field which once hosted cattle and to the south a great forest. The barn beside the little house had been refitted with several old stoves and grills for cooking. Piles of wood and charcoal lay nearby, Carolyne had been trading and working out how best set up this little contest. In the center of the barn was a great table laid out with spices, seasonings, and vegetables the kitchen had spared them to help cook.

Four faucets were set up between cooking stations for water and pans, with most being a bit dent or old were lay on each station's countertop. Finally at the back of the barn was Luca, who was unusually dressed for combat he'd agreed to play security guard to the rifles and ammunition, Abigail sat beside it to write down names issuing a rifle and ammunition to the contestants, as Carolyne stood outside between the barn and house with a smile on her face.

The Second Sons officer was eager to begin the hunt and see what they could come up with for kills and dishes to serve. This was also an event she hoped many locals would come to watch and would hopefully draw in the PDF and guardsmen for everyone to get along better after all this wasn't about but money but simply showing skills. Not to mention hot meals and good conversation were great tools to motivate people to get along and work together.

She also needed the judges to arrive but she wasn't too worried about that, as they could come later and judge the food once everyone was finished. The time limit for the event was sunset which meant food had to be cooked and ready in time for dinner and everyone could get home before it got dark.

And the Guard answered. Though, not the of the type that would want to willingly participate in such events as a whole but when considering this particular soldier and this particular company... It makes absolute sense.

She approached with careful steps, while not fearful or uncertain had an air of 'not-knowing' to it, Erika Hass approached the Structure designated as a Rallying Spot for the event. The Equipment was, as always, for full engagement - planned or not, thus including issued weapons, Carapace, Utilities and other things her Assignment as a "Jägerin" - (Fittingly Translated into Huntress: a mixture of Reconnaissance, Sharpshooting and Infiltration) would require.

The Kriegerin went directly to Carolyne and sharply saluted the Officer.

Wilfred had never gone on a hunt once in life life. At least not one like this were the game was most likely not going to be a gretchen with a small knife in the rubble after an attack though the there was a time or three when he sat by a fire chewing on some freshly killed squig he helped corner in some rubble. That dose not mean that he will avoid a chance to get some nice cooked meat to take back to base or at least the chance to.

Wilfred walked to the barn carefully. Being in the guard gave most troopers that were alive a good hefty dose of paranoia. Every regment sworn to the throne had there own ways of dealing with it. Some never let go of there lasguns or always sleep with a knife in hand. The more paranoid slept with explosives. For Wilfred whenever he goes anywhere he dose not feel comfortable or safe at. He wears his armor. Though he did leave his stubber at base. (smart enough to leave it hidden) he kept his pack and gear snugly close. He gave a friendly salute to the door guard as he made his way towards the weapons station. "Stub rifles. Thats good. " he thought to himself "I can at least take the kick." With a warm grin he turned to Abigail "Hail. " he gestred with to the rifles "may I have a feel for the weapons?"

Dehker was in a good mood as he jogged to the farmhouse where he heard a special event was going to take place. He wore his navy fatigues and his duty cap to cover his unusually unkempt hair. He needed to get it cut. He walked up to the woman outside and, after noticing her rank as a lieutenant, performed a perfect salute. Damn she was pretty. Not wanting to give a bad impression, he lowered his salute as modestly as he could and smiled. "This is where the hunt is going to be, correct? Emperor, it's been some time since I've hunted. It'll be fun to shake the dust off. Name's Nils Dehker, Sergeant-At-Arms. And you are?" Hopefully she has nothing against the Imperial Navy, he thought.

As he walked up, Sarge left behind a trail of cigar smoke as he puffed away, marching up to barn for the cook off. At a glance, Odril was the typical drill instructor; a short, frowning ball of muscle and hate all with an unpleasantly loud voice. Being cadian, his life had been a symphony filled with the sounds of marching boots, artillery thuds, and cracking lasguns. But deep down, there was a different song that played in his heart. The sounds of crackling wood fire, sizzling meats, and dicing vegetables, the smell of cinnamon and pepper. The kitchen was his place to be.

As he approached the barn doors, he saluted to Abigail and took his rifle. He looked over to Dehker, noting the navy uniform. Hopefully he wasnt the best shot. As he moved in, he could help by smile at the table of spices and fresh ingredients.

Carolyne smiled slightly when she spotted Erika, the Krieger girl seemed to be so different the other Kriegers on base and very interested in things most Krieg soldiers would have dismissed as irrelevant. She hoped Erika could eventually spread things like music to her unit Carolyne could only imagine the hauntingly mournful songs they might sing, their were many songs about seeking penance for crimes she imagined a choir of Krieg singing them as they marched.

Shaking her head, today was not about music! It was about a hunt! Carolyne's fondest memories with her father were conducting hunts with delicately crafted stub rifles with specialized rounds. "Ah, hello Erika. Glad you can join us... Sadly for the hunt, you'll have to leave your weapons with Luca at least and take a stub rifle... Luca's inside the barn, feel free to test the rifles." She lifted an arm pointing into the barn. "And don't worry Erika... Think of it as learning about other regiments food, thus increasing your ability to share and bond with a unit and prevent incidents."

As the Navy man approached Carolyne could only raise an eyebrow for a moment. "Didn't expect the navy to turn up. Carolyne Hood, Second Sons Lieutenant. Sergeant if you'll need a stub rifle, head back and see the resident Terran and my aide they will get your name down and once everyone has a rifle and registered I'll let you all head out." She explained taking a moment to look out the fields and the nearby forests as the hunters got ready.

Abigail nodded a moment when Ordril selected a stub rifle she wrote down the serial number and his name. She knew better than to try to correct with a Cadian especially one as senior and grizzled as he was, so to Wilfred letting her voice carry. "You may all tests the rifles, most of these were taken from local militia's and then cleaned. Tech-Priests signed off on every one of them so pick the one you like best, Luca will give you fifteen rounds for your rifle once you're sure. Please return any unfired shots... More ammo we save, more often we can try to have events like this."

Luca, then began to lay out five shot magazines in groups of three the Terran was silent. He knew exactly nothing about the forest, cooking, or how to get meat from an animal. He was just here to stare at the guns and make sure things were safe until they went home... Maybe try some of the cooking too, if time allowed.

Erika nodded to Carolyne and headed inside

She was not the only member of her regiment to express interest in 'Trivial' matters, her mere authorised presence here was enough an indication that the 9453rd company will, if not adopt, at least understand practices of non Kriegers where deemed applicable.

"Salutations!" The Kriegerin called to Abigail, Luca and all 3 sergeants, one of them in a Naval uniform for some reason.
She handed over her longlas to Luca, though the laspistol stayed on her belt; they are going beyond the perimiter and the unexpected becomes much more common.

"Unit 9453/8-316. One Stub Rifle please." Erika said to Abigail and read aloud the serial number of the Rifle. Which, after taking a safety distance she inspected to tiny details.

Nicholas Cage wrote:Len Field #4 Mk. III Stub Rifle
An elegantly simple 4.11 kg amalgamation of metal and wood creating a Bolt Action, Highly Accurate Stub Rifle.
Magazine capacity of 10 standard 7.62×51mm NEATO Stub Cathridges. The Bullet is accelerated through a rifled 640 mm long barrel to a lethal muzzle velocity of 744 m/s.
With a smooth, almost silk-like chambering mechanism and sleek ergonomics it is capable of an impressive fire rate, 20–30 aimed shots per minute while keeping the target between its Iron Sights, adjustable for distance and conditions. Meaning if the 1st bullet does not kill then the hundred following it will.
Effective range ends at half a kilometre, though a skilled operator can triple it.
Simple, Effective and Reliable not sacrificing much in terms of sheer firepower and accuracy. With more than a 100 Billion produced since its conception in the ancient 2nd Millenium by the pre-unification Albion Imperium, no wonder it is still in common use by some Poor but Disciplined Imperial PDF, often confused for Heavy Stubbers which in fact is a well drilled squad of soldiers wielding weapons such as this one.

While not perfect for Dangerous Big Game, it will be more than enough for the rest.
The Kriegerin raised the rifle at an angle to into the distance as she looked through the weapon's Iron Sights and down the Barrel, adjusting where needed.

Wilfred would smile as he held the stub rifle in his hands. cocking it back and taking a moment to aim down its barrel to get a feel for its iron sights. He was trying to hide the feelings of dread inside of him growing. He could barely hit targets with the heavy stubber he toted around and he was trained for that. This was a single shot rifle. He took a look at the competition around him. A krieger scout, A cadian noncom and a navy boy stuck in the dirt. he was assured at least third place in the competition at least.

Deciding on going to a fellow noncom for aid was his best bet in all of this. He would walk to Odril giving him a scan up and down with his good eye as he approached and offer a quick somewhat casual salute to the man with three fingers before speaking calmly. "Know anything about adjusting the sights on these things?" he asked feeling more than a little green at the moment. "Nothing really to hunt in the tunnels."

Sarge was busy disassembling his rifle when Wilfred approached. The sergeant looked over the trooper, trying to put a name to the face. He was asked about setting the iron sights. He puffed on his cigar one more time before putting it out, and looked at the rifle.

"Well there ain't much too it. Just do this...and turn this. Ah which hand are you partial too?" He asked, pointing to the nobs used to adjust the front and rear sight."Ah also names Odril, 335th Kasrkins. Current CO of that group of odd balls. Nice to meet you." He said extending his hand, looking closer at the mans gear.

"So what kinda fancy gun the Adepts have you carrying if you don't know how to use an iron sight?"

The Navy officer continued past Carolyne into the building and smiled, noting the other contestants in the room. He was glad to finally be able to have some fresh food to cook and eat instead of the rations. It'd been some time since Dehker had fired a stub gun, back in Molov, and was determined to do well, at least to prove his worth to the other guardsmen. He received his gun and ammunition, leaned against the wall, and began to look over the weapon. He hadn't used this kind before but he figured it wasn't that different than others.

Dehker smirked as he overheard one of the Sergeants asking another about the gun sights. He might have a better chance at winning than he originally thought. As they were on his mind, he checked his own sights and made sure they were functional and in place, aiming the rifle at the roof and calibrating as needed.

Wilfred chuckled a bit "I man a heavy stubber. Different sight style and all..." he said chuckling a bit. taking the mans hand by the wrist he would shake smiling warmly "Wilfred manner. Stehlen Forged sarge put in with a bunch of cadians now. Barely know any of 'em. Pleasure to meet ya." taking his own moment to scan over the sarge in front of him. "so what are you planing on cooking up? "

To the scaning Odrill he saw the slate and grey colored carapace armor thin rank stripes on one shoulder. Scratched up Regimental Heraldry on the other. It was an image of a armored equine creature with a plated flat forehead lining down to and around the snout. As well as his sighting Wilfred's augmetics.
